The interaction between policy interventions, population growth, and land use change has become a significant concern for regional planning and sustainable development. This study examines the patterns and drivers of land use change in the Malda district of West Bengal, focusing on the influence of government policies and demographic expansion. Rapid population growth has increased the demand for agricultural land, settlements, and infrastructure, leading to noticeable transformations in land utilization. Policy initiatives related to agriculture, irrigation, and rural development have also played a crucial role in shaping land use patterns. The study highlights how these factors collectively affect environmental sustainability, agricultural productivity, and socio-economic conditions in the region. Understanding these dynamics is essential for developing balanced land management strategies and ensuring sustainable development in Malda district.
