The plant is also recognized for its cardiotonic, diuretic, and laxative properties. It exhibits anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-ulcerative, and antioxidant activities. Policosanol, a key constituent, is known to lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a critical enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis.
