Aerotropolis development has marked a paradigm shift in the planning for metropolises in India. The airports have been repositioned as dynamic catalysts for metropolitan restructuring. Historically, Indian cities have developed around forts, trade nodes, religious centers, colonial administrative chores and along coastline, riverside etc. Contemporary airport-led growth disrupts this evolutionary pattern by displacing gravitational centers toward peripheral aviation nodes. It converts the peri-urban farmlands into commercial zones and produces tiered settlement hierarchies based on proximity to runway and airport access privileges. This paper examines morphological transformations induced by airport led expansion through four case studies representing different typologies of Indian airports : Cochin International Airport (CIAL) – based in a tourism and trading economy in coastal city; Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) Delhi -  represents post-liberalised  transformation of an established hub; Noida International Airport (NIAL) at Jewar - represents greenfield development in agricultural flood-plains; and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Hyderabad represents airport-city development in an IT-Pharma driven metropolitan region. A mixed-methods approach which combines spatial analysis of satellite imagery, bio-spatial formations of urban development with airports at the epicenter, land-use change and comparative employment data has been used. Airport induced peri-urban land use conversion has generated conflicts between informal settlements and formal aerotropolis design principles. Rapid speculative real estate inflation has deepened spatial divides between the original settlers and new land owners. Linear corridor development produces fragmented urban forms. This research tries to identify critical gaps between the Kasardian aerotropolis ideals and Indian development ground realities. These outcomes are shaped by unchecked land speculation, the absence of unified planning authority across different development zones and land acquisition frameworks that consistently prioritise commercialised projects over the welfare of displaced communities. The paper proposes integrated master planning framework, public transport-oriented corridor, context sensitive design codes and environmental sustainability principles for navigation of aerotropolis development in emerging economies
